~ New Reviews ~

13th June 2006

We have three new reviews for your reading pleasure:

Innocent Traitor by Alison Weir reviewed by Diamondlil

"Alison Weir is the author of numerous non-fiction books, but Innocent Traitor is her first fiction book. She has taken the story of the Nine Day Queen - Lady Jane Grey, and given us the details of her childhood, her relationship with her parents, her introduction to court..."

Outlander by Diana Gabaldon reviewed by Kailana

"Hurled back in time by forces she cannot understand, Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of lairds and spies that may threaten her life... and shatter her heart. For here James Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior, shows her a love so absolute that Claire becomes a woman torn between fidelity and desire..."

Mary Queen of Scotland and the Isles by Margaret George reviewed by Diamondlil

"The Mary we grow to know is a very complex woman - at various times innocent child, powerful ruler, woman in love, alternatively cautious but also impulsive, someone who was betrayed many times, and yet was the object of great devotion from many of her friends, including some of her jailers..."

Enjoy! Don't forget to let us know your thoughts about them - you'll find the link at the bottom of each review.

More new reviews!

The first is written by Kailana, looking at Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks :

"Whatever the hardships that strike this town, because people die from hatred, not just the plague, Brooks does a great job in conveying the message of the struggle but at the same time it is not a depressing novel..."

Secondly, we have a review of The Greatest Knight by Elizabeth Chadwick written by Diamondlil:

"The book follows William Marshal from the time he is 5 years old through to around 48 years of age (there will be another book to cover from then until his death that the author is currently working on). This is a fictionalised version of his life, taking the events that we do know from history, and then weaving and fleshing out the story into very readable, very enjoyable look at life in the times of the Plantagenet period of English history..."

Last but by no means least, we have a new review from Wendall Sexton of Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice :

"CHRIST THE LORD: OUT OF EGYPT is a marvelous work of fiction that not only tells the story of the Jewish people at the epoch of two thousand years ago, it also viably relates what life might have been for Jesus, growing from a boy into a man, learning the story of His birth..."

~ New Reviews ~

They say it never rains but it pours... HistoricalFiction.org has a wealth of new reviews for your reading pleasure!

Diamondlil has written a review of the enchanting book by Anya Seton, 'Dragonwyck':

"Originally published in 1941, this book is classified as a gothic romance. It reminded me of Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier in tone in several ways. Having read and loved Seton's classic Katherine, which is in no way a gothic romance, I was quite surprised by the tone and subject matters in Dragonwyck..."

More reviews from Wendall Sexton include 'The True Darcy Spirit' and 'The Exploits & Adventures of Miss Alethea Darcy', both by Elizabeth Aston. These novels follow from Jane Austen's 'Pride and Prejudice', and have received a good following from fans.

Our final new review, also by Wendall is 'Sins of the Fathers' by James Scott Bell. This is a legal thriller, and can be found under the All Other Fiction section of the book reviews.

Feel free to read the reviews and share your thoughts by following the link at the bottom of each one.
